The PC Engines ALIX 6F2 is a Mini-ATX (152 x 152mm) system board with a very large range of possible applications including wireless routers, firewalls, industrial user interface or bespoke network devices.

The ALIX 6F2 has 256MB of DDR RAM and a 500MHz AMD Geode LX800 allowing for a full range of 32bit x86 applications. The innovative architecture of the LX800 provides one of the most energy-efficient x86 solutions in the industry; this, in combination with the on-board DC-DC converter, removes the need for a bulky ATX-style PSU resulting in a powerful system board with a very small footprint. Alternatively the PC Engines ALIX 6F2 can be powered using passive PoE on LAN 1.

Also on board the PC Engines ALIX 6F2 is a CompactFlash port. This allows a wide range of operating systems to be installed on the ALIX 6F2 including:

• MikroTik RouterOS

• FreeBSD

• OpenWRT

• IPFire Firewall

• Ubuntu

• Meteohub weather server

The PC Engines ALIX 6F2 motherboard provides expandability with a Mini-PCI port which can be used for installing a wireless card. This could turn the ALIX 6F2 into a fully-featured wireless access point or even a wireless bridge. What differs the ALIX 6F2 from the ALIX 2D2 and ALIX 2D3 is the addition of a Mini-PCIe port and a dual SIM slot. When used together they let the ALIX 6F2 receive a mobile 3G signal, this could turn the 6F2 into a wireless hotspot allowing you to stay connected on the move. However, it is worth noting that the Mini-PCIe ports will only work with 3G modem cards and the SIM card slots are not active without a 3G modem present. There is also dual USB port that can be used with any peripherals providing your chosen OS will support them.

The ALIX 6F2 system board has I/O ports for: 1x DC Jack, 2x USB, 2x 10/100 Ethernet and 1x Serial.
