FAQs

Q1: What is the Ubiquiti IS‑M5 used for?
A: The IS‑M5 is an outdoor 5 GHz wireless CPE/radio designed for point‑to‑point or point‑to‑multipoint links, providing reliable 5 GHz connectivity for backhaul or distribution in wireless networks.

Q2: What are the basic antenna and radio specifications of the IS‑M5?
A: It operates in the 5.15–5.875 GHz band, uses a built‑in 14 dBi antenna, and has a default horizontal beamwidth of 45° (with the supplied horn antenna), giving a good balance between range and coverage.

Q3: What network interface and power method does the unit use?
A: It has one Gigabit Ethernet (RJ45) port for data, and is powered via passive PoE (24 V DC, 0.5 A) over the Ethernet cable — no separate power cable required.

Q4: What are the mechanical and environmental operating specifications?
A: With the horn, its dimensions are approximately 174 × 174 × 150 mm; weight is around 726 g. It’s designed for outdoor use, with an operating temperature range of –40 °C to +70 °C and rated wind survivability up to 200 km/h, making it suitable for exposed mast or rooftop installation.

Q5: What sort of deployment scenarios is IS‑M5 best suited for?
A: It is ideal for bridging networks over moderate distances, wireless backhaul, rural or remote‑site connectivity, or building robust 5 GHz links where reliability and weather resistance matter — especially when a compact, integrated‑antenna CPE is desirable.
