Teltonika TRB501 Industrial 5G Gateway — High-Performance 5G Connectivity for Demanding Environments

The Teltonika TRB501 is a compact industrial 5G gateway built for challenging operational environments. Its modem supports 5G Sub-6GHz SA/NSA with download speeds up to 3.4 Gbps and upload speeds up to 900 Mbps, while a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port, 9–30 VDC power input, and passive PoE support give installers genuine flexibility on site. Backwards compatibility with 4G LTE Cat 19 ensures continuity in areas where 5G coverage remains partial.

The anodised aluminium enclosure carries an IP30 rating and operates from −40 °C to +75 °C, making the TRB501 well suited to industrial sites and remote deployments where reliability is non-negotiable. Support for Modbus, DNP3, and DLMS/COSEM enables integration with SCADA and smart grid platforms, and VPN compatibility across OpenVPN, IPsec, WireGuard, and ZeroTier keeps traffic secured over public networks. Fleet management is simplified via Teltonika's RMS platform, which allows remote configuration and firmware updates across multiple devices simultaneously — a practical advantage for organisations operating distributed or multi-site estates.

FAQs

Q1. What 5G standard does the Teltonika TRB501 support, and what speeds can it achieve?

A. The Teltonika TRB501 is powered by a 3GPP Release 16 modem, delivering 5G Sub-6GHz performance in both SA and NSA modes, with download speeds of up to 3.4 Gbps and upload speeds of up to 900 Mbps. The Release 16 modem also enables 5G carrier aggregation for better spectrum utilisation and single-digit millisecond end-to-end latency, making it suited to latency-sensitive industrial applications.

Q2. What industrial protocols does the Teltonika TRB501 support?

A. The TRB501 supports Modbus, DNP3, and DLMS/COSEM — making it directly compatible with SCADA systems, smart grid networks, and telemetry applications. These built-in protocols allow the device to integrate into existing industrial infrastructure without additional middleware, which is particularly valuable for utilities, energy management, and process automation environments.

Q3. What are the hardware and environmental specifications of the Teltonika TRB501?

A. The TRB501 is housed in a compact anodised aluminium enclosure (100 × 30 × 93.4 mm, 241 g) with an IP30 rating, and operates across an extended temperature range of −40 °C to +75 °C. It also features four SMA female antenna connectors for external antenna attachment and two configurable I/Os for scenario customisation. Power input is 9–30 VDC with passive PoE support.

Q4. How is the Teltonika TRB501 managed remotely, and which IoT platforms does it support?

A. The TRB501 is fully compatible with Teltonika's Remote Management System (RMS), which allows firmware updates and configurations to be pushed to multiple devices simultaneously. It also supports integration with major IoT platforms including Azure IoT Hub, AWS IoT Core, ThingWorx, and Cumulocity. The device runs RutOS (based on OpenWrt), providing access to a full suite of monitoring tools including WebUI, SSH, MQTT, and TR-069/CWMP.

Q5. What VPN and security features does the Teltonika TRB501 include?

A. The TRB501 supports multiple VPN protocols — OpenVPN, IPsec, WireGuard, and ZeroTier — for building secure encrypted tunnels across public networks. Additional security features include a built-in firewall, access control lists for SSH, WebUI, CLI and Telnet, VLAN support, and a certificate manager for creating CA, server, client, and Let's Encrypt certificates. This makes it suitable for deployments where network security and compliance are critical requirements.
