FAQs

Q1: What is the UF‑GP and what is it used for?
A: The UF‑GP is an SFP (optical transceiver) module designed for GPON OLT devices — it enables the OLT to connect to a passive optical network (fiber) for fiber‑to‑the‑home or fiber distribution networks.

Q2: What fiber type, connector, and link distances does the UF‑GP support?
A: It uses single‑mode fiber, with an SC/UPC fiber connector. It supports link distances up to 20 km between the OLT and the end‑user’s ONT/ONU.

Q3: What are the data rates for downstream and upstream traffic on the UF‑GP?
A: Downstream (from OLT to clients) up to 2.488 Gbps, and upstream (from clients to OLT) up to 1.244 Gbps — matching standard GPON ITU‑G.984 rates.

Q4: What wavelengths and optical power ranges does the UF‑GP use?
A: The transmitter (TX) operates at 1490 nm, the receiver (RX) at 1310 nm. Optical power ranges vary depending on class (e.g. “B+” or “C+”), but are suited for typical GPON deployments over 20 km SMF runs.

Q5: In what type of network deployments is UF‑GP ideal, and what does it enable?
A: UF‑GP is ideal for building GPON‑based fiber networks — e.g., fiber‑to‑the‑home (FTTH), fiber‑to‑the‑building (FTTB), or fiber backbones. It enables a single OLT port to serve multiple ONTs/ONTs over long‑distance single‑mode fiber runs.
